The BARS ProgramBrand Guidelines

02 · Foundation

What the brand stands on.

Mission, vision, values, positioning, and audience. These decisions shape every other choice downstream, from how we talk on a red card to how we paint a logo.

02.2

Mission

The Bars Program strengthens the bond between retailers and the communities they serve. We believe every shopping experience should be safe, responsible, and built on integrity. Through education, compliance, and quality assurance, we help businesses raise their standards while protecting what matters most.

02.3

Vision

To raise the bar of retail for every company, community, and individual.

02.4

Values

Four dual-purpose values. Each works as a directive for the team and a promise to the people we serve.

01

Initiative

Initiative, not wait-and-see.

We move before we're asked. Flagging issues, raising concerns, building the habit before the test matters. Whether we're checking a store or running our own work, we act in time, not in reaction.

02

Accountability

Accountability, not optics.

We own the work and the results. Every visit, every report, every promise is held to the same standard. Showing accountability isn't the same as performing it. The proof is in the record, not in the statement.

03

Integrity

Integrity, not flattery.

We report what we find, and we deliver that truth to help, not to hurt. Green is green. Red is red. No inflated scores, no hedged findings. Integrity doesn't mean harshness, and it doesn't mean niceness. It means saying what must be said, and saying it in a way that works.

04

Service

Service, not compliance.

Compliance isn't the point. It's the mechanism. The real work is in service of customers, employees, and the neighborhoods stores serve. We measure ourselves by harm prevented and habits built, not audits completed. We're not here to grade stores. We're here to help them learn what better looks like and to build the practice that protects the people who walk through their doors.

Act before pressured. Own your work. Tell the truth usefully. Serve the people behind the paperwork.

02.5

Positioning

The standard for retail compliance at the point of sale.

The BARS Program is the independent standard for retail compliance. Through education, verification, and quality assurance, we help retailers raise and prove the everyday practices that protect customers, employees, and the communities their stores serve. At the point of sale, where training meets reality and technology alone can't reach, we verify whether stores are executing what they know.

02.6

Audience

Who the brand speaks to. The primary audience is the retail operator who owns how well stores execute. Secondary audiences shape the brand indirectly but matter.

Primary

Retail operators at multi-location chains

The roles that own how well stores execute day-to-day.

  • Operations leadership
VP Ops, Director of Store Operations. Primary buyer.
  • Compliance, Loss Prevention, Legal
    Legacy core audience, still primary.
  • Training and Development
Major audience once BARS frames itself as the verification layer on top of training.
  • Franchise oversight and multi-unit GMs
At smaller and mid-sized chains, the owner or GM is often the decision-maker directly.

Secondary

Influences the brand indirectly

  • Store employees receiving cards
The card is in their hands. The voice on it determines whether BARS reads as a coach or a cop.
  • Brand partners and manufacturers
Alcohol, tobacco, and category-adjacent manufacturers whose retail partners use BARS.
  • Regulators and public-health bodies
Don't buy, but encounter BARS documentation in enforcement and policy contexts.
  • Industry associations
Conduits to reach primary audiences at scale.

Sectors

  • Convenience stores and travel centers
    Largest share.
  • Restaurant and bar groups
  • Grocery, drug, and pharmacy
  • Emerging categories
    Cannabis, Rx.
